Oamaru stone carvings

Oamaru stone is a type of cream limestone only found at Oamaru in the South Island of New Zealand.

It is formed over millions of years from tiny shellfish on the ocean floor. It is hand carved here in NZ, at Kiwi Presents, into various shapes such as hearts and tiles.

We use rasps and files for the shaping. Once it is carved we sand it to give it a smooth finish, and then wipe the dust off with a wet cloth.

We decorate the piece with a design made from shell. The main shell used is that of the paua, New Zealand's own abalone, which is a mono-valve shellfish.

It has beautiful swirls of irridescent blue, pink , green and purple. The paua is harvested in NZ by Ocean Shell and sent to China where it is made into sheets of laminate.

It is then returned to NZ and laser cut into various shapes.

Lavender Hearts

Lavender Hearts come with a bottle of lavender oil. The lavender is grown and the oil made in the Hawke's Bay.

Just an occasional drop of lavender oil on the stone heart will boost its fragrance.

Lavender has a soothing effect on the nerves.

It can help with insomnia due to its mild sedative effect. A drop on the temple can help reduce headaches.

Avoid putting oil on the paua design.

The Oamaru stone is a natural product and, as such, sometimes has small patches of different colours or textures.

Refund within 14 days

If the item you have bought arrives broken, please email or ring us within 14 days of receiving it.

If you would prefer a replacement item be sent we will do this at our expense.

If you would prefer a refund, we will refund the amount you have paid less any freight charges.
